The Honda MT
For me and many others, the Honda MT-5 stands for youth, freedom and, above all, joy. Although the Honda MT is not as sturdy as an MTX, the MT is much lighter. Japanese innovation
The technique was very progressive before that time. By offering the Honda MT for 1,995 guilders, the “obsolete” Kreidlers and Zundapp's were forced into bankruptcy. However, after this move, the smart Japanese have raised the price to 3,400, - guilders in two years after the bankruptcy of the Germans! The Honda MT has been there in many color ways. Initially with two 17 inch rims, later with a 19 inch front wheel and a 16 inch rear wheel. There are few Honda MT'5 that are not customized. From plastic Paris-Dakar tank, to long side covers, headlight spoilers etc. everyone wanted a Honda MT-5, but no one wanted the same MT! Honda in the beginning.
The Honda Mb & Mt were very similar and almost all parts were therefore the same. Both models were therefore released with a displacement of 50 and 80 cc, but also versions of 4, 5 or 6 gears. Honda did this to conquer the European market of 16 years old. Honda also switched from a four-stroke engine to a two-stroke engine. The first Honda MT was introduced in the Netherlands in April 1980. At the time, only one color combination was available. That was white/red and this first Honda costs 2490, - guilder. Despite the appearance and quality, sales went uneasy in the early s. So Honda had to take action and lowered their prices dramatically.
Boosting and maintaining your Honda MT.
In the beginning, there was a lot of experimentation with performance parts for the Honda MT. For example, it was soon discovered that due to its enormous spare capacity, a lot was possible. Honda then released an aluminum cylinder with 5 cooling fins. This allowed your Honda MT to easily run 80 km/h, but even this wasn't fast enough for some people. For these people, Honda made cylinders with 6 membranes and a cylinder capacity of 70 & 80 cc.
