Ignition

What does an ignition do on a scooter?

The ignition of a scooter or moped is responsible for igniting the air-fuel mixture in the cylinder, resulting in combustion and propulsion of the engine. Without a properly functioning ignition, your vehicle may be difficult to start, run poorly or even not start at all.

How does inflammation work?

The ignition generates a high-voltage spark at the right time to ignite the fuel-air mixture in the cylinder. This is done by adjusting the ignition timing, whereby a spark plug delivers the spark at the right time during the engine's compression stroke.

How do you know if the ignition is broken?

There are several symptoms that can indicate a faulty ignition, such as difficult starting, stalling engine, reduced power, rough idling and higher fuel consumption. If you experience one or more of these symptoms, it is advisable to have your ignition checked by an experienced technician.

Common causes of ignition problems

Ignition problems can be caused by worn spark plugs, faulty ignition coil, poor wiring, problems with the CDI unit or incorrectly adjusted ignition timing.

How much does an ignition cost for a scooter?

The cost of a new ignition for your scooter or moped can vary depending on the brand, model and quality of the part. On average the costs are between €10 and €200, but this can be higher for specific models or brands.

Also consider the cost of labor

In addition to the cost of the part, you also need to consider the cost of labor if you have the ignition replaced by a professional technician.

What is an ignition moped?

An ignition for a moped has the same function as that for a scooter, namely igniting the fuel-air mixture in the cylinder. The term "moped ignition" simply refers to the ignition system used in mopeds.
