Piston ring scooter

Piston rings are mounted on the piston in the cylinder. The compression springs are on the top two slots. The oil scraper spring third. The piston rings ensure a good seal between piston and cylinder. In addition, the piston ring has functions related to oil and lubrication regulation and heat transfer from the compression compartment via the piston to the cylinder wall. The piston rings largely determine the efficiency of the engine and must operate under extreme conditions.

Although the quality of the motors is getting better, the piston rings remain a wear part. When the piston and cylinder walls are still good, the piston rings can become worn out. Once oil consumption goes up or performance decreases, it could be time for new springs. Replacing the piston rings is a specialist work. Still, there are plenty of hobbyists who are able enough to do the job. We have several videos on our YouTube channel where we show how to replace the piston rings yourself.
