Brake disc scooter

Good brakes are vital if you own a scooter. With good brakes, the road is safer for you and your fellow road users. Over time, the brake discs will wear out. This results in that you are less likely to stand still when you brake, but also that braking takes more effort. If you don't do something about your brake discs quickly, it can cause accidents. Do you notice that your brake discs are in need of replacement or would you like more information about cleaning your brake discs? Then you've come to the right place!

Brake discs and blocks

Brake discs and blocks are inextricably linked. Brake pads are indicated against the brake discs during braking. Friction is created and you slow down. Because friction is created, brake pads wear out quickly. It is wise to check every three thousand kilometers that your brake pads are not worn out. You can do this by looking in the brake caliper and thus checking the thickness of the brake lining. Are you in doubt if your scooter needs new brake pads? Make sure you always have at least 1 millimeter of brake lining left. With brake pads that are in need of replacement, you can see that the brake lining has been worn off completely. It is important to change the brake pads in time. If you don't do this, chances are that the brake discs will damage. To ensure that you can brake safely again, it is recommended to replace the brake discs at the same time as the brake pads.

Types of brake discs for scooters

If you have looked among our range of brake discs, you will notice that we have different types of brake discs. The reason for this is that almost every scooter brand has a different size brake disc. The principle of a brake disc works the same for all scooters, but the size is slightly different with each scooter brand. To prevent rust on brake discs, a stainless steel brake disc is recommended.
Scooters are all different, this is also the case with their braking systems. Most scooters have a brake disc in the front wheel and a drum brake in the rear wheel. But there are also scooters where there is a brake disc in both the front and rear wheel. To make it even more complicated, there are also scooters that have a drum brake on the front and a brake disc at the rear. But the latter is not very common. To clarify whether it concerns the front or rear part of the brake system, we have made a distinction on our website between brake discs for the front and rear wheel.

New brake discs

Does your scooter make an abrasive noise or vibrate while you brake? Then it could well be that the brake disc is worn out. Are you in doubt if your scooter is ready for new brake discs? To check if a brake disc is really worn out, you can disassemble and inspect it. Usually on a brake disc, there is an indication of the minimum thickness. If a brake disc is thinner than the specified minimum thickness, it needs replacement. With a worn brake disc, grooves are felt and you can clearly see signs of wear.
If you've concluded that it's time for new brake discs, it's good to think about whether you want to do this job yourself or if you'd rather have someone look at it. If you choose to do this job yourself, you can purchase new brake discs on our website. When purchasing brake discs, first of all, make sure that the brake discs you want to buy fit your scooter. So, buy a brake disc that is compatible with the brand of your scooter. Once you have received the correct brake disc, you can mount it on your scooter.
