WD40
WD-40 is a brand name of a worldwide available water repellent spray developed in 1953 by Norm Larsen, founder of the Rocket Chemical Company, San Diego, California. Originally it was used to prevent corrosion; in later instance it was used for many other applications. The spray consists of a composition of different hydrocarbons.
WD-40 stands for "Water Displacement - 40th Attempt", referring to Larsen's 40th attempt to find a successful formula for his anti-corrosion agent.
