Help with oil selection

Help with oil selection

Every scooter equipped with a combustion engine needs to be supplied with engine oil. To ensure maximum engine lifespan, it is extremely important to provide the scooter or moped with the right oil.

2-stroke oil

With a 2-stroke engine, the oil is not inside the engine itself but in an oil reservoir. The oil is mixed with the gasoline by the carburetor's oil pump, which is driven by the crankshaft. So, if the engine revs higher, more oil is automatically added to the gasoline to maintain the same ratio. There is no oil change for 2-stroke oil, but it is crucial always to ensure that there is enough oil in the oil reservoir! We recommend refilling on time and not waiting for the dashboard indicator to light up! For ensuring the lifespan of your scooter, quality oil is of great importance. Good oil provides proper lubrication, reducing friction. Less friction means less wear and lower fuel consumption. Good 2-stroke oil also burns cleaner, resulting in less soot accumulation in the exhaust system.

4-stroke oil

With 4-stroke engine oil, the oil is inside the engine block. The oil pump ensures circulation within the engine so that all vital parts are lubricated. It is important to regularly check the oil level in the engine block.

Most scooters are equipped with an oil dipstick. The oil should be changed at every service. We recommend doing it every 3000 km.

Transmission oil

Zandri recommends using 75w90 transmission oil instead of the commonly prescribed 80w90. 75w90 is slightly thinner than 80w90 and is therefore preferred for use in Northern Europe, where average temperatures are significantly lower than those in Southern Europe and Asia. Most scooters are produced there.

Full or semi-synthetic oil?

Most oils used today are fully or partially synthetic. Synthetic oils have many advantages over mineral oils. They are much more stable, have a longer lifespan, provide better engine wear protection, and perform better at extreme temperatures. Additionally, synthetic oils keep your engine cleaner from sludge or deposits, improving power and performance and potentially reducing fuel consumption.

Semi-synthetic oil is a blend of synthetic oil and mineral oil. This oil has the benefits of synthetic oil but is cheaper to purchase due to the added mineral oil. In many cases, it is an excellent choice.
