From 1 January 2023, it is mandatory to wear a helmet on a moped. By wearing a helmet, you prevent (serious) head injuries in the event of accidents. A speed pedelec helmet has already been approved for a moped. In appearance, you can compare a speed pedelec helmet to a bicycle helmet, but the speed pedelec helmets are designed for higher fall speeds. You can recognize the approval of a speed pedelec helmet by the NTA 8776:2016 marking. If you do not wear a helmet on a moped after 1 January 2023, you may be fined 100 euros.
