On the scooter/moped, your only way of indicating where you want to go is the flashing light. Without letting go of your steering wheel then, otherwise you can just reach out your hand, but sometimes this is awkward. Of course, it is not without risk, to let go of your steering wheel.
The relay is an “on-off machine”, so you can view it. This small device ensures that the flashing light actually blinks. If it is broken, your flashing light often turns on and lights up alone. It is also possible that the whole flashing light does nothing anymore.
