How does a carburettor work?
A carburetor is a part of an internal combustion engine that ensures that the gasoline is atomized and mixed with air before the resulting mixture is sucked into the cylinders. A carburetor is connected to an air inlet, usually via an air filter, and is supplied with gasoline by gravity (if the fuel tank is mounted above the carburetor) or by an electric pump.
In two-stroke engines, gasoline can also be drawn into the crankcase due to the negative pressure, which is done by means of a diaphragm pump, for example in scooters and karts.
In a four-stroke engine, the air-petrol mixture leaves the carburettor via the intake manifold through intake valves to be burned in the cylinders.
